The New Jersey Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA New Jersey) has announced the recipients of its 2024 Planning Excellence Awards. Among those honored are two alumni from the Bloustein School: Courtenay Mercer and Alexander Dougherty.
Courtenay Mercer, a seasoned planner with a background in both public and nonprofit sectors, received the Budd Chavooshian Award for Outstanding Professional Planner. Her career includes significant contributions to land use policy in New Jersey through her roles at the NJ Office of Smart Growth and as CEO of Mercer Planning Associates. Mercer's work is noted for its focus on equitable community engagement and innovative planning strategies.
Alexander Dougherty was recognized as the Distinguished Emerging Planner. He has played a key role in urban revitalization projects in Dover, New Jersey, where he currently serves as Planning Supervisor. His efforts have led to notable developments such as securing endorsements for redevelopment projects and obtaining grants for community initiatives.
Both awardees will be celebrated at a reception on December 12, 2024, at the South Orange Performing Arts Center.
