The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) has announced a new Main Street New Jersey (MSNJ) FY24 Transformation Grant opportunity. These grants are intended for designated MSNJ district organizations across the state, aiming to enhance local commerce and improve both appearance and quality of life within these districts. Applications will be accepted from February 15, 2024, until April 15, 2024.
“To date, the MSNJ program has distributed more than $4.3 million in grants to MSNJ district organizations,” stated DCA Acting Commissioner Jacquelyn A. Suárez. “This demonstrates our commitment to empowering communities so they can promote economic growth, improve infrastructure, and enhance the quality of life for residents. Transformation Grants are community investments that will play a pivotal role in contributing to a more vibrant and resilient local economy.”
Eligible projects for the grant must align with transformation strategies defined by MSNJ and the National Main Street Center®. Grant amounts may reach up to $150,000, with additional funding potentially available. Applications will be reviewed as received, and funds will be awarded as long as they remain available. Successful applicants must use their grant within 12 months of receiving it; half of the award is provided upfront with the remainder reimbursed after project completion or fund utilization.
The MSNJ Program supports municipalities in enhancing their central business districts' economy, appearance, and image through organizing local citizens and resources. Established in 1989, municipalities must apply and be selected to join this program. Designated communities receive technical support and training to help restore their main streets as centers of economic and social activity.
