Symposium focuses on faith-based roles in sustainable development

The New Jersey Redevelopment Authority, in partnership with several organizations, is set to host the "Unlock the Potential: Faith in Action in Sustainable Development Symposium." This event is specifically designed for faith-based organizations and will take place on March 9, 2024, at Kean University.

Leslie A. Anderson, president and CEO of the New Jersey Redevelopment Authority, emphasized the role of faith-based organizations in community development: “In an ever-evolving landscape, faith-based organizations play a pivotal role in shaping the future of their communities, making this symposium a unique opportunity for learning and collaboration.”

The symposium aims to provide faith-based groups with essential knowledge and strategies for community redevelopment. Edward LaPorte from the New Jersey Office of Faith-Based Initiatives highlighted its significance: "This symposium is an incredible opportunity for faith-based organizations to position themselves at the forefront of positive community transformation."

Jacquelyn A. Suárez from the Department of Community Affairs noted the importance of affordable housing initiatives: “DCA is committed to addressing the State’s critical affordable housing shortage by increasing, preserving and enhancing its affordable housing stock.” She added that partnering with faith-based nonprofits aligns with their mission to provide quality housing opportunities.

Kellie LeDet from Kean University expressed support for the initiative: “Kean University is pleased to be a partner in this initiative.” The university's Faith-Based Institute of Public Policy aims to strengthen ties between faith communities and society.

Taiisa Kelly from Monarch Housing Associates shared her perspective on housing rights: “At Monarch we believe Housing is a Human Right...
