The Urban Enterprise Zone Authority (UEZA), part of New Jersey’s Department of Community Affairs, has been instrumental in fostering growth in Vineland through grant awards totaling approximately $5.5 million over the past year. These funds have been allocated to various initiatives aimed at strengthening small businesses within the Vineland Urban Enterprise Zone.
Key projects funded by these grants include the "Project Beautify" Exterior Improvement Program, which focuses on enhancing business facades and public spaces, and efforts to boost public safety and attract new businesses. Among the developments underway are a microbrewery and a film and digital media studio.
DCA Commissioner Jacquelyn A. Suarez commented on the impact of these initiatives: “Vineland’s forward-thinking business development concepts supported by Urban Enterprise Zone Authority funds are prime examples of how effective public-private partnerships can drive economic growth and community revitalization.” She added that such grants help create jobs, improve neighborhood vibrancy, and make Vineland more attractive for future investments.
UEZA Deputy Director Joseph Fusco highlighted specific projects: “The microbrewery, which is supported by a $2 million award from UEZA, will be an exciting attraction for the region." He also noted that the media studio project received $900,000 in December 2023 and is expected to boost local businesses catering to production crews.
Vineland Mayor Anthony Fanucci emphasized the role of "Project Beautify" in attracting customers and new businesses: “By improving the physical attractiveness of businesses throughout Vineland’s commercial corridors, we can boost foot traffic locally.”
Economic Development Director Sandy Forosisky reported positive reception for "Project Beautify," with over 40 applications processed since late 2023. More than $550,000 in improvements have been completed so far.
Recent awards include $305,000 for commercial corridor improvements focused on cleanliness and $550,000 for a police foot patrol detail within the UEZ area. Forosisky stated that there are currently 526 registered UEZ businesses: “As the number of registered businesses continues to grow, so does the Vineland UEZ’s ability to help create jobs.”
The Urban Enterprise Zone program was established in 1983 but received renewed support when Acting Governor Sheila Y. Oliver signed legislation appropriating $42.5 million to it in August 2021. Since its relaunch nearly three years ago, UEZA has awarded more than $62 million across 208 municipal-level projects statewide.
