Port Authority announces expanded services amid Hoboken PATH station closure

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, along with NY Waterway, has announced plans to expand ferry and bus services during the closure of the PATH Hoboken station. The station will be closed from January 30 to February 25, 2025, for essential infrastructure work.

NY Waterway will enhance its service by providing additional peak hour ferries between Hoboken and Manhattan. There will also be increased crosstown bus services from the Midtown/West 39th Street terminal. Ferry operating hours will be extended until 10 p.m. on weekdays and midnight on weekends. An extra weekend ferry route to Midtown/West 39th Street is also planned.

Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole expressed gratitude for the cooperation of transit partners in easing travel during the closure. “We’re grateful for the unwavering partnership shown by NY Waterway and all of our transit partners as we help PATH customers navigate this closure of the PATH Hoboken station,” he said.

Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the closure but emphasized ongoing communication efforts with riders. “We understand the challenge this closure poses for PATH riders, and we deeply appreciate our longtime transit partners across the region doing their part to offer passengers alternative travel options,” Cotton stated.

NY Waterway President and CEO Armand Pohan highlighted their commitment to maintaining reliable service during this period. “We are pleased to be partnering with PATH to provide enhanced ferry service across the Hudson River during this February period,” Pohan said.

During this time, critical safety repairs will be conducted at the Hoboken station as part of a broader $430 million PATH Forward program aimed at improving reliability and infrastructure across several stations.

The cost for ferry rides during this period will not exceed that of a regular PATH fare, ensuring affordability for commuters. Further details can be found on both PATH’s Hoboken station closure website and NY Waterway's online platforms.
