Port Authority announces travel advisories affecting major NYC crossings and airports

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has announced lane closures and service changes affecting travelers from November 15 to 21. The agency advises those using its facilities to plan ahead and consider additional travel time due to these disruptions.

Air travelers should be aware of ongoing construction at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), part of a $19 billion redevelopment project. "Customers are strongly advised to use mass transit to and from the airport," stated the Port Authority, suggesting options like MTA New York City Transit subway or buses, or MTA Long Island Rail Road. Motorists are encouraged to use the free drop-off, pickup, and waiting lot at Lefferts Boulevard AirTrain JFK station for convenient terminal access.

Significant lane closures will occur at major crossings including the George Washington Bridge, Holland Tunnel, Lincoln Tunnel, and Outerbridge Crossing. Specific closures include:

- George Washington Bridge: Various lanes will be closed at different times from November 15 through November 17.

- Holland Tunnel: The New Jersey-bound tube will be closed on multiple occasions for Superstorm Sandy-related repairs.

- Lincoln Tunnel: Closures will affect the center and north tubes at various times from November 16 through November 21.

- Outerbridge Crossing: One eastbound right lane will be closed during specific periods.

AirTrain Newark will also be suspended for routine maintenance from Saturday night to Sunday morning, with free shuttle buses providing alternate service.

To manage parking demand at Newark Liberty International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, and JFK Airport, travelers are urged to pre-book parking spaces if traveling by private car. "Travelers who do not pre-book will be charged a peak period drive-up surcharge," noted the Port Authority.

At JFK's Terminal 4, construction has relocated for-hire vehicle pickups to a remote lot with shuttle bus service provided. Similar adjustments have been made at Terminals 5, 7, and 8.

LaGuardia Link Q70 bus service remains fare-free year-round as part of an initiative announced by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul in April 2022.
