The Howard Leventhal Scholarship is now open for applications. This scholarship, named after Dr. Howard Leventhal, a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a Rutgers Board of Governors Professor in Health Psychology, aims to support doctoral students embarking on their investigative careers. Dr. Leventhal's research significantly advanced health psychology, particularly in understanding chronic illnesses.
Each year, two doctoral candidates pursuing PhD or equivalent degrees will receive a stipend of $4,000 for one fiscal year to aid promising research projects. The scholarship encourages applications from those enrolled in Rutgers doctoral programs who are conducting independent research aligned with Dr. Leventhal’s mission and the Institute for Health's (IFH) contributions to interdisciplinary population health research.
Applicants are encouraged to focus on areas that are often underfunded. To apply, candidates must submit 1-2 letters of recommendation from PhD advisors or school leadership, a CV, and a 2-3 page research plan detailing their specific project.
A selection committee composed of faculty members from various departments at the Institute for Health will review the applications and select two finalists. Applications should be sent to nswenarton@ifh.rutgers.edu by Sunday, January 12, 2025.
