Randy Mastro, the attorney representing the State of New Jersey, has issued a statement criticizing the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and its leader Janno Lieber. Mastro's comments come in response to congestion pricing plans that would affect commuters from New Jersey.
According to Mastro, "Under Janno Lieber, the MTA is a mismanaged mess—plagued by $700 million in lost revenue due to fare evasion, cost overruns, and a loss of public confidence in the agency’s ability to function." He further accused Mr. Lieber of attempting to address these financial issues by imposing an "unfair and unpopular fee on hardworking New Jersey commuters."
Mastro argues that this fee has been "poorly designed and insufficiently thought through from the beginning," suggesting that it is not a viable solution for balancing the MTA's budget.
The statement highlights ongoing tensions between New Jersey officials and the MTA regarding congestion pricing policies.
