NJEA criticizes Trump's pick for Secretary of Education

The New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) has issued a statement following reports that President-elect Trump has selected Linda McMahon, a former professional wrestling executive, as his nominee for Secretary of Education. The statement was released by NJEA officers: President Sean Spiller, Vice President Steve Beatty, and Secretary-Treasurer Petal Roberson.

In their statement, the NJEA officers criticized the choice of McMahon for the position. They stated, "This is an unserious choice by an unserious administration that is more interested in stirring up outrage, controversy and clicks than it is in helping the American people." They expressed concern about the impact of this decision on students and families who depend on public education as a pathway to achieving the American Dream.

The NJEA emphasized its commitment to advocating for students and educators despite decisions made at the national level. "As advocates and educators, we will never stray from our commitment to fighting for our students, our schools and our proud profession," they declared. The organization vowed to protect New Jersey's public schools from what they described as "the reckless agenda of the Trump administration."

Furthermore, NJEA members have endorsed their current president, Sean Spiller, in New Jersey’s 2025 gubernatorial election.
