As discussions continue around the impact of Certificate of Need (CON) laws on healthcare expansion in Alabama, Americans for Prosperity-Alabama (AFP-AL) has voiced concerns over these regulations. The organization argues that such laws hinder access to quality care and increase costs.
Adam Thompson, State Director of AFP-AL, expressed his views on the matter: "Too often in Alabama we are hearing about the Certificate of Need Review Board denying or holding up health care facilities, which only denies Alabamians a diverse market of options to seek the most affordable and effective medical care."
Thompson emphasized the importance of competition and innovation in maintaining a robust healthcare market: "Competition and innovation keep our health care market robust with options for the patient, not serving the business desires of investors. To stay competitive, Alabama must allow critical health care investments and expansions to thrive by fully repealing our CON regulations."
AFP recently addressed these issues in an op-ed published in Yellowhammer News, highlighting their stance against Alabama's CON laws.
