Port Authority reports record-breaking passenger numbers at airports in October

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey reported significant growth in several transportation sectors for October 2024, highlighting a return to pre-pandemic activity levels. The commercial airports experienced their busiest October on record with 12.4 million passengers, surpassing the previous year's numbers by over 8,000. International travel also saw its highest October ever, contributing to a total of 122.1 million passengers through the first ten months of 2024.

PATH commuter rail service achieved new post-pandemic highs in both total monthly ridership and average weekday ridership for the second consecutive month. Approximately 5.7 million passengers used PATH in October 2024, marking an increase from September and surpassing October 2023 by 18 percent.

The Port of New York and New Jersey handled more than 700,000 TEUs for the eighth straight month despite a minor decline from the previous year and September's figures. This continued performance was attributed to shippers' confidence amidst labor concerns earlier in the year.

In terms of vehicular traffic, about 10.6 million vehicles crossed into New York through the Port Authority's bridges and tunnels during October, maintaining levels consistent with both pre-pandemic times and last year’s data.

Overall, these metrics indicate robust activity across different modes of transport within the region managed by the Port Authority.
