NJCPA awards exam fee lottery prizes to ten aspiring CPAs

The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) has announced the recipients of its CPA Exam Fee Lottery, aimed at alleviating some financial burdens for those pursuing certification as public accountants. Ten members have been awarded $750 each to assist with their CPA Exam fee costs.

These winners, who are either Affiliate or Student members of the NJCPA, were chosen randomly from over 60 entries. The initiative was launched in 2019 to help offset expenses associated with preparing for and taking the CPA Exam, which can surpass $2,500 when factoring in enrollment fees and preparation materials.

This year's winners include Bolakale Ayuba from Microsoft, Angilee Blake from Rider University, Cathy Boutelle, Jacob M. Chesir, Abraham Goldberg from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Alex S. Gonzalez from Rutgers University-New Brunswick, Sahil Khosla, Zoe Lopez, Dov Vernik, and Chaya Yarmush.

Angela Garofalo, CPA, CFP and president of the NJCPA Scholarship Fund stated: “The lottery is a wonderful way to assist young professionals in route to becoming CPAs. Accounting is such a rewarding profession, and I am pleased the NJCPA continues to offer this important support for the next generation.”

Aiysha (AJ) Johnson, MA, IOM and CEO/executive director at the NJCPA added: “Having a CPA Exam Fee Lottery reminds us about the important role CPAs play in society and how crucial it is to keep the profession as open as possible for students and others entering the field.”

Eligibility for this lottery required candidates to sign up for the first part of the four-part CPA Exam between December 1st, 2024 and November 30th, 2025. Participants must be enrolled in or have graduated within five years from a New Jersey college or university. Those receiving employer financial assistance for exam fees were not eligible.

The NJCPA Scholarship Fund made this lottery possible through generous contributions from members and accounting firms. Since its inception in 1960, it has supported more than 2,000 New Jersey students with awards totaling over $7 million.
