Governor Phil Murphy and Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way have announced the appointment of Awilda Pomales-Diaz as the new Executive Director of the New Jersey Puerto Rico Commission. Pomales-Diaz is expected to contribute significantly to the development and expansion of the Commission.
Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way, who also serves as Secretary of State, expressed confidence in Pomales-Diaz's capabilities: “Awilda brings a wealth of experience in government and exciting new ideas to reach New Jersey’s Puerto Rican community. I know that Awilda will grow the Commission’s relationships and reach across our state and I am thrilled to welcome her to the Commission and to the Department.”
Governor Phil Murphy highlighted Pomales-Diaz's previous contributions: "Awilda Pomales-Diaz was a valued member of our team from the earliest days of our Administration and I’m excited to see her return to government service. The New Jersey-Puerto Rico Commission plays a key role in boosting ties between New Jersey and Puerto Rico. I know Awilda is the right leader to advance the Commission’s important work."
Pomales-Diaz expressed her enthusiasm for her new role: “I want to express my sincere gratitude and excitement for this opportunity to serve the State of New Jersey and focus on the core mission of mutual success for the Garden State and for the Island. It's a privilege to work for an Administration and a Commission dedicated to this important policy and economic work.”
Before rejoining public service, Pomales-Diaz worked in the private sector as a Senior Account Executive at an NYC-based boutique lobbying firm, specializing in government affairs and public relations. She also served as Policy Director for New Jersey Senate Majority Leader Ruiz, managing legislative portfolios and budget advocacy.
Commission Co-Chair Peggy Anastos welcomed Pomales-Diaz, saying, “I am very proud to welcome Awilda and look forward to her bringing the experience of working with the Governor and different levels of government to the Commission.”
