The County of Mercer and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority have submitted a request to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. They propose to divert 0.106 acres in Hamilton Township as part of relocating an access easement and driveway from NJTA-owned property onto County-owned Green Acres land. This relocation is linked to the Interchange 6 to 9 Widening Project and aims to maintain access for the County and a neighboring private landowner.
To compensate for this diversion, the County plans to dedicate more than double the diverted land area as Green Acres open space. The replacement lands include two parcels totaling 0.45 acres in Hamilton Township.
A public hearing regarding this proposal will be held at the Hamilton Township Public Library on January 9, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. Approval by both the NJDEP Commissioner and the State House Commission is required for this proposal. Supporting documents can be reviewed at various local offices including those in Hamilton Township and Trenton.
Interested parties are encouraged to attend or submit written comments on the proposed diversion until January 23, 2025. Comments should be sent via email or mail as specified in the notice.
