New Jersey signs intent letter with Karnataka to boost tech industries

Bengaluru — The New Jersey-India Commission, along with Choose New Jersey, facilitated the signing of a Letter of Intent (LOI) between New Jersey and Karnataka. This agreement aims to strengthen technology industries by promoting innovation in emerging sectors. Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way signed the LOI at the TiE Global Summit in Bengaluru, where she also delivered a keynote speech.

"This partnership reflects and builds upon the longstanding economic and cultural relationship between New Jersey and India," said Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way. "The collaboration will join global leaders in biotechnology and information technology."

The agreement leverages New Jersey's life sciences ecosystem alongside Karnataka's leadership in life sciences and technology to drive economic growth through bilateral trade and investment. It also establishes collaboration with academic institutions for research and cultural exchange.

"New Jersey and India share a commitment to advancing life sciences and technology," stated Wesley Mathews, President of Choose New Jersey. "This agreement establishes a new pathway toward innovation."

The inaugural mission underscores New Jersey's commitment to strengthening ties with India across multiple sectors. Established in 2024, the New Jersey-India Commission aims to enhance trade, cultural connections, and collaborations that drive innovation.

New Jersey is described as a global hub for immigrants and international businesses. India is its second-largest foreign direct investor with $11.3 billion in annual bilateral trade.
