New Jersey opens pre-application for state rental assistance program waiting list

The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) has announced the opening of the pre-application period for the State Rental Assistance Program (SRAP) waiting list. This period will start on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. EST and end on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. EST. Eligible residents of New Jersey are invited to apply online at www.WaitlistCheck.com/NJ559.

DCA Commissioner Jacquelyn A. Suárez stated, “Our department is dedicated to helping veterans, seniors, disabled individuals, and low-income families find a safe, stable, and affordable home in the communities they wish to live by providing critical state rental assistance.” She added that opening the waiting list would enable more people to receive housing help soon.

All eligible applicants will be entered into a lottery system. Priority will be given to households that meet specific preferences. The lottery process will occur after the application period closes. Selected individuals will be notified via email and can check their status online at www.waitlistcheck.com after February 14, 2025.

Applicants must adhere to income limits based on household size and county of residence. These details are available on the DCA website. For further information about income limits and other program specifics, visit the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) website.

For those with disabilities or needing application assistance, DCA provides reasonable accommodations. Applicants can contact 609-292-4080, option 9, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., seven days a week or email customer.service@dca.nj.gov during the application period for support.

Pre-applications are accepted only online; an email address is required for submission. It is recommended that applicants use web browsers like Google Chrome, Firefox, or Internet Explorer version 10 or higher for an optimal experience.

The Division of Housing and Community Resources administers SRAP as part of its mission to strengthen communities through affordable housing delivery and supportive services provision.

DCA offers various programs including local government management and finance services, affordable housing production initiatives, fire safety measures, building safety standards enforcement, community planning and development projects along with disaster recovery efforts among others.
