Governor Murphy signs multiple bills addressing public services and community recognition

Governor Murphy has enacted several legislative measures, signing a range of bills into law. These new laws address various issues including public employee retirement benefits, affordable housing, mental health resources for children, and the designation of commemorative periods.

Among the signed bills is S-871/A-2286, which "establishes eligibility for enrollment in PERS and subsequent retirement benefits for certain county fire instructors under certain conditions." This bill was sponsored by A.M. Bucco and Sarlo in the Senate, with Lopez and Dunn sponsoring it in the Assembly.

Another significant measure is S-1430/A-586. Sponsored by McKnight and Singleton in the Senate and Stanley, Atkins, Reynolds-Jackson in the Assembly, this legislation "provides for expanded use of affordable housing voucher program funding."

Additionally, Governor Murphy signed S-3611/A-4970. This law "provides grant to study and map mental health care resources for children; makes appropriation," with Scutari and Vitale as its sponsors in the Senate and Carter, Speight, Reynolds-Jackson in the Assembly.

The governor also approved several joint resolutions designating specific observances within New Jersey. Notably, SJR-29/AJR-50 establishes August as “Professional Engineers Month” and the first Wednesday of August as “Professional Engineering Day.” Meanwhile, SJR-71/AJR-25 designates the first week of May each year as Wounded Warrior Appreciation Week.

In addition to these approvals, Governor Murphy conditionally vetoed bill S-2788/A-4569. The conditional veto affects legislation intended to appropriate $128.241 million from constitutionally dedicated CBT revenues to the State Agriculture Development Committee for farmland preservation purposes.

These legislative actions reflect ongoing efforts to address diverse state needs ranging from public service employment conditions to community recognition initiatives.
