NJ Transit offers extra services for New Year’s celebrations

NJ TRANSIT has announced additional services for the holiday season, offering increased travel options and flexibility for those attending events and gatherings. The service enhancements are designed to accommodate passengers during New Year's celebrations.

The Gladstone Branch rail service has resumed operations in both directions between Summit and Gladstone after resolving earlier overhead wire issues near Stirling.

Throughout December, NJ TRANSIT has been promoting its SuperSaver fare, allowing up to two children aged 11 or younger to travel free with each fare-paying adult. This offer is valid until 6:00 a.m. on January 6.

A strict no-beverage policy will be enforced from December 31 through the early hours of January 1. "No beverages of any kind, in any type of container, open or closed, will be permitted on board trains, buses or light rail vehicles," according to NJ TRANSIT. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed on buses at any time.

NJ TRANSIT is also providing discounts via promotional codes in its mobile app, including "Buy One, Get One" deals and discounts to Philadelphia and Atlantic City. Full details can be found at njtransit.com/holiday.

For New Year's Eve, a modified weekday schedule with extra evening services to New York and Hoboken will be available. After midnight on January 1, additional late-night trains will operate on all lines except the Atlantic City Line. Regular weekend schedules will resume after 6:30 a.m., including Port Jervis Line Train 88.

Bus services will follow either weekday or special holiday schedules with added overnight routes from the Port Authority Bus Terminal (PABT). Some routes may depart from alternate areas within PABT between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

On New Year's Day, trains will operate on a weekend/major holiday schedule post-6:00 a.m., with similar adjustments for bus lines based on Saturday or Sunday timetables. Newark Light Rail will run on Saturday/Holiday schedules while HBLR and River LINE follow Sunday/holiday schedules.

NJ TRANSIT remains one of the largest public transportation systems in the U.S., providing extensive connectivity across New Jersey, New York, and Philadelphia through its network of rail stations, light rail stations, bus stops, and paratransit services.
