Governor Murphy pays tribute to former President Jimmy Carter

Governor Murphy has issued a statement following the passing of former President Jimmy Carter. He highlighted Carter's dedication to moral courage and purpose, noting his efforts to heal the nation after Watergate and his pivotal role in Middle East peace negotiations, including brokering a treaty between Israel and Egypt.

Murphy praised Carter's commitment to public service beyond his presidency. "In addition to his accomplishments in public office, it is what President Carter did when he did not have an official title that has solidified his place among our nation’s greatest citizens," Murphy stated. He acknowledged Carter's distinguished service in the United States Navy and his lifelong dedication to charitable causes, emphasizing efforts to promote peace, combat disease, and provide housing for the homeless.

The governor expressed condolences to Carter's family: "We pray that, in rest, President Carter will be reunited with his beloved wife Rosalynn. And we are sending our prayers, as well, to their children Jack, James II, Donnel, and Amy." He reflected on Carter's unexpected impact on the world from humble beginnings in Plains, Georgia. "He proved that good people, wanting nothing more than to do good, can excel in politics and life," Murphy concluded.
