The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) Board has approved a $4.2 million grant to aid the expansion of the Showboat Family Entertainment Center in Atlantic City. This decision is part of the Atlantic City Revitalization Grant Program, which aims to support construction projects and economic growth in the area.
Tim Sullivan, NJEDA Chief Executive Officer, stated, "Under Governor Phil Murphy’s leadership, New Jersey has focused on investing in Atlantic City to foster sustainable and inclusive economic growth that will have an impact for years to come." He added that the grant would help Showboat enhance its family-friendly entertainment offerings and continue attracting visitors.
Jacquelyn A. Suárez, Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, expressed enthusiasm about Showboat's success and expansion plans. She remarked, "We’re excited by the success of the family-friendly Showboat and are thrilled it is already expanding to include more attractions for kids and the young at heart."
The expansion project will involve an 18,000 square foot addition to the Lucky Snake Arcade and Raceway. It will also include new arcade games, a ten-lane bowling alley, food outlets, and a play area with private party rooms. These developments aim to provide year-round indoor entertainment options suitable for families.
Bart Blatstein, Owner of Showboat Properties, LLC., shared his excitement: “Showboat is thrilled with the support of the State of New Jersey in furthering year-round family friendly entertainment in Atlantic City.”
In addition to this grant, nearly $4 million from American Rescue Plan funds has been allocated by NJEDA for reopening applications under the Atlantic City Revitalization Grant Program. The program supports up to 50 percent of capital project costs within Atlantic City with grants ranging from $250,000 to $2.5 million.
Approved initially in December 2023, this program targets COVID-19 impacts by backing real estate development projects aimed at repurposing properties for community benefit.
