The New Jersey Turnpike Authority has announced a public forum to discuss the Grade Separated U-Turn Program at Milepost 29.1 along the New Jersey Turnpike in Lawnside, Camden County. This initiative is part of the compliance with the New Jersey No Net Loss Reforestation Act and Executive Order No. 172 issued by Kean in 1987.
The project involves constructing a new U-turn bridge intended for official use only, such as by emergency and maintenance vehicles. This construction will replace traffic movement previously facilitated by median cut-throughs. The area affected includes 1.1 acres of forested land, which will be subject to compensatory reforestation efforts under the No Net Loss program.
The public forum is scheduled for Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Borough of Lawnside Municipal Building's Council Chambers located on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Road in Lawnside, NJ.
Representatives from the New Jersey Turnpike Authority will present project details and answer questions during this event. Attendees will have opportunities to provide both oral and written comments regarding the project's impact on local forestry and its alignment with existing regulations.
Following the forum, there will be a public comment period open until March 29, 2025, allowing additional time for written statements to be submitted either at the forum or sent directly to Oleem O’Garro, P.E., Project Engineer - Structures.
For further inquiries about the project, interested parties can contact Oleem O’Garro via email at structuresdesign@njta.com or through mail addressed to P.O. Box 5042 Woodbridge, NJ.
