Jane Dickson's bronze medallion commissioned for JFK Terminal 6 arrivals plaza

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, in collaboration with JFK Millennium Partners (JMP), has announced a new public art commission for the upcoming Terminal 6 at John F. Kennedy International Airport. Artist Jane Dickson will create a bronze medallion for the arrivals plaza, greeting passengers as they arrive in New York City. This project is part of an extensive art program curated by Public Art Fund.

Dickson, who resides in New York City, joins 18 other artists selected to integrate diverse artworks into the terminal. The medallion will be a 14-foot-diameter piece crafted from durable cast bronze using low-relief casting techniques. Masterwork Plaques will assist Dickson in bringing her vision to life.

Rick Cotton, Executive Director of the Port Authority, stated, “Great works of public art are a signature part of our strategy to build new, world-class airport terminals that will create a sense of place unique to New York.” Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole added that such art would make the terminals inspiring parts of travelers' journeys.

George Casey, chairman of JFK Millennium Partners and CEO of Vantage Group, emphasized that every aspect of Terminal 6 aims to inspire travelers. Nicholas Baume from Public Art Fund noted that Dickson's medallion would greet travelers after experiencing other artworks inside the terminal.

The Terminal 6 project is part of a broader $19 billion transformation plan for JFK Airport announced in January 2017. This plan includes several privately financed projects alongside Port Authority investments aimed at redeveloping and expanding airport facilities.

JFK Millennium Partners leads the development as an award-winning consortium including Vantage Group, American Triple I, RXR, and JetBlue Airways. Terminal 6 construction began in February 2023 and is expected to complete its first phase by 2026.
