Middlesex College has announced Dionne Miller, Ph.D., as the new vice president for Academic Affairs after a nationwide search. Miller will assume her role at New Jersey's largest two-year community college following her tenure as associate provost and associate dean for Academic Affairs at LaGuardia Community College, part of the City University of New York in Queens.
In her new position, Miller will be the chief academic officer at Middlesex College, overseeing the Division of Academic Affairs and all credit-bearing courses and degree programs. She will also focus on developing pathways from noncredit to credit programs, supporting students' success both at Middlesex College and beyond.
“I am both excited and honored to join the Middlesex College community as vice president of academic affairs,” said Miller, who hails from Mount Vernon, New York. “This role is not only a professional milestone but also a profound reflection of the transformative power of public higher education."
With 30 years of experience in community colleges and public education, Miller brings significant expertise to her new role. Her previous positions include serving as a faculty member and managing curriculum-related governance processes at LaGuardia Community College.
At Middlesex College, she will contribute to the institution's 2023-2028 Strategic Plan which emphasizes access to education, student success, community engagement, and fostering an inclusive campus environment. The college boasts a diverse student body with 42% being first-generation students.
“Dionne brings an impressive record of academic leadership and collaboration," said Middlesex College President Mark McCormick. "I look forward to partnering with and supporting Dionne in the expansion of opportunities for students of all backgrounds."
During her time at LaGuardia Community College, Miller was instrumental in launching several program innovations including new majors in education and film and television. She also led successful apprenticeship programs with companies like Mastercard and Wells Fargo.
Miller succeeds Linda Scherr who left the post in March 2024 to become chief academic officer for the New Jersey Council of County Colleges. Theresa Orosz served as acting vice president before Miller's appointment.
Miller holds a doctorate in chemistry from CUNY’s Graduate School and University Center along with a master’s degree in chemistry from CUNY’s Graduate School.
Middlesex College was established in 1964 as a public two-year institution located in New Jersey with campuses in Edison, New Brunswick, and Perth Amboy offering over 85 degree programs.
