President Donald Trump's regulatory freeze appears likely to impact several energy and environmental rules established by the previous administration. On his initial day in office, Trump signed an executive order instructing agencies to halt new regulations. This move aligns with actions taken by past presidents but represents Trump's first effort in what he describes as a battle against federal regulations that he believes hinder business and energy production.
Stuart Shapiro, dean of the public policy school at Rutgers University, explained the rationale behind such actions: "Regulatory freezes are standard practice for incoming administrations," Shapiro stated to POLITICO’s E&E News. "They want to pause any actions not completed by the previous administrations so they can decide whether they want to complete them."
