New Jersey IHC program seeks proposals for disability-inclusive community projects

The New Jersey Inclusive Healthy Communities (IHC) grant program has opened its latest Request for Proposals (RFP). This initiative aims to provide grants to local governments and nonprofit organizations. The focus is on advancing policy and systems change by including people with disabilities in efforts to build healthy communities.

To participate, organizations are advised to familiarize themselves with the IHC program. A video overview is available, along with resources such as information on previous grant recipients, webinars on health equity and inclusion, and additional materials.

Applicants should download the RFP and consider attending one of two virtual workshops scheduled for January 24 at 2 pm or January 30 at 10 am. Attendance is strongly recommended for at least one team member from each applicant organization.

A Letter of Intent must be submitted by February 14, 2025, at 5 pm EST through the application portal. Questions regarding the RFP can be sent via email to ihc@ejb.rutgers.edu by February 21, 2025, at 5 pm EST.

Completed proposals are due by March 7, 2025, at 5 pm EST. Applications must be submitted through the designated portal. Applicants can use an application checklist and preview narrative questions provided in Word format to assist in their preparation.

Additional resources are available for applicants working on their proposals. These include a Disability Profile Snapshot Tool developed by NJAES Office of Research Analytics at Rutgers University and various guides on inclusive communication and accessible event planning.

"At your service," a video produced by Storyline Motion Pictures and Mid-Atlantic ADA Center, is among the resources offered. Other tools include etiquette training videos from the District of Columbia Office of Disability Rights and information on person-first language from the Texas Center for Disability Studies.

Further support comes from organizations like the National Center on Health Physical Activity and Disability (NCHPAD), which provides online learning platforms and promotes initiatives like "Commit to Inclusion."
