Port Authority issues travel advisory for January 24-30 amid ongoing construction

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has issued a travel advisory for the week of January 24 to 30, urging travelers to plan ahead due to several lane closures and service changes. This advisory is part of ongoing construction efforts across major transportation hubs in the region.

At John F. Kennedy International Airport, a $19 billion redevelopment project is underway, affecting traffic flow around the airport. Motorists are advised to use mass transit options like MTA subways or Long Island Rail Road services to avoid delays caused by detours and closures. The Port Authority recommends using the free drop-off, pickup, and waiting lot at Lefferts Boulevard AirTrain JFK station for easier access to terminals.

Lane closures will occur at the George Washington Bridge from Friday night through Saturday morning. Similar disruptions are expected at the Holland Tunnel and Lincoln Tunnel during overnight hours throughout the week. These closures are part of repair projects related to Superstorm Sandy and other maintenance activities.

Travelers using Newark Liberty International Airport should note that AirTrain Newark will be suspended on Saturday night into Sunday morning for maintenance. Free shuttle buses will provide alternate service during this period.

For those relying on PATH services, track work will affect train schedules between Journal Square and 33rd Street via Hoboken over the weekend. Additionally, PATH's Hoboken station will close from January 30 until February 25 for critical repairs, with various travel alternatives available.

Airports such as LaGuardia continue to encourage public transit use with fare-free bus services year-round. Travelers are reminded to pre-book parking spaces at airports to avoid surcharges and ensure availability.

Motorists heading northbound on Van Wyck Expressway from JFK Airport should expect overnight closures on January 31 and February 1 due to construction work.
