Travel advisory issued for major NY-NJ transit points amid construction projects

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has issued a travel advisory for the period from January 31 to February 6, alerting travelers to planned lane closures and service changes across several key transit points. The advisory includes information on closures at the George Washington Bridge, Holland Tunnel, Lincoln Tunnel, and Bayonne Bridge.

The Hoboken PATH Station remains closed for critical repairs until February 25. Additionally, northbound lanes of the Van Wyck Expressway departing John F. Kennedy International Airport will close overnight early Saturday with detours in place through Federal Circle.

AirTrain JFK services between Federal Circle and airport terminals will be suspended from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning, with free shuttle buses providing alternate transportation. Travelers are advised to use mass transit due to ongoing construction at JFK Airport as part of its $19 billion redevelopment project.

Motorists should anticipate delays or reroutes due to road network closures around JFK Airport. "Customers are strongly advised to use mass transit to and from the airport," said a spokesperson from the Port Authority. Travelers can also utilize a free drop-off, pickup, and waiting lot at Lefferts Boulevard AirTrain JFK station.

Specific lane closure details include:

- **George Washington Bridge**: Eastbound lanes on the lower level will be closed from Friday night until Saturday morning; similar closures apply for westbound lanes.

- **Holland Tunnel**: The New Jersey-bound tube will be closed multiple nights due to Superstorm Sandy-related repairs.

- **Lincoln Tunnel**: Various tubes will have scheduled closures affecting traffic flow in both directions on specific dates.

- **Bayonne Bridge**: A southbound right lane closure is scheduled for Monday.

The Port Authority urges air travelers using Newark Liberty International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, and JFK Airport to pre-book parking spaces or face potential surcharges and parking difficulties.

At Newark Liberty International Airport, all rental car companies now operate out of a consolidated rental car center located within Parking A garage levels 1 through 3. The facility connects directly via AirTrain Newark or a pedestrian bridge.

Travelers using PATH services should note that during Hoboken's closure, alternative transport options include expanded ferry service and shuttle buses. The World Trade Center station has limited access overnight for cleaning and security purposes.
