Rutgers releases new briefs on New Jersey childcare workforce

The Rutgers Child Care Research Collaborative has published two new research briefs by researchers from the Heldrich Center for Workforce Development. These studies provide insights into New Jersey's child care workforce.

The first brief, "New Jersey’s Childcare Workforce: An Examination of Internet Job Postings from October 2023," authored by Liana Lin, Brittney Donovan, and Andrea Hetling, Ph.D., presents findings from an analysis of online job postings in the child care sector. The report details various aspects of these job advertisements, such as position type, employment type, wages, and location. This information sheds light on the demand for workers in this field.

Another brief titled "Child Care Workforce Focus Group Summary Briefing," written by Liana Lin, summarizes initial findings from focus groups with members of New Jersey's child care workforce. The study is organized around four themes: motivation, workplace logistics and support, career planning, and perceived barriers and challenges.

The Rutgers Child Care Research Collaborative includes the Heldrich Center for Workforce Development, the Center for Women and Work, and the National Institute for Early Education Research at Rutgers University. Funded by the New Jersey Department of Children and Families, this collaborative effort aims to enhance understanding of New Jersey’s child care landscape through research and community dialogue. The goal is to better comprehend parents' needs and interests as well as the motivations and capacity of the child care workforce to meet current and future demands.
