Horizon Foundation announces info sessions for Veterans Health Initiative Grants

Nonprofit organizations that serve veterans and their families have the opportunity to learn about grant opportunities under the Horizon Foundation Veterans Health Initiative. Two online information sessions are scheduled for March 6 and March 10.

The Horizon Foundation, which is the philanthropic branch of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, has initiated the Veterans Health Initiative. This program aims to assist veteran organizations in addressing the unique challenges faced by veterans. The foundation will offer one-year program grants up to $20,000 to support programs in three key areas:

- Behavioral Health: Programs that address mental health needs such as post-traumatic stress, military sexual trauma, suicide prevention, anxiety, depression, substance use disorder, and other behavioral health issues.

- Housing & Food Security: Initiatives that help veterans and their families access safe and affordable housing and essential food resources.

- Economic Opportunity: Programs providing tools, resources, and business connections to aid veterans in professional development through training, mentorship, and networking.

Eligible applicants must be New Jersey-based 501(c)(3) organizations serving veterans or their families with a proven track record of effective programming. The grants are not intended for general operating support.

Braven Health, The Horizon Foundation, and the New Jersey State Veterans Chamber of Commerce will host two online Zoom meetings in March to offer further details about these grants.

Interested participants can register for the meeting on March 6 at 6 p.m. or on March 10 at noon. Proposals must be submitted online by May 7. Grant decisions will be announced in July for a one-year term starting October 1.
