Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) has announced the launch of FDU HealthPath Forward, a strategic initiative aimed at transforming healthcare education and addressing workforce shortages. This program will leverage interdisciplinary education, training programs, industry partnerships, and community-integrated strategies to meet the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals.
FDU President Michael Avaltroni stated, "We have a vision for the future of healthcare education," emphasizing the goal to create an ecosystem that enhances healthcare systems and patient outcomes. He added, "The healthcare industry is facing an urgent demand for skilled professionals, and it’s critical that higher education steps up to meet this challenge."
A key element of the initiative is the FDU Healthcare Education Community Collaborative (HECC), which aims to connect academic institutions with healthcare systems and industry leaders. The collaborative seeks to align educational offerings with industry needs through innovative degree programs and hands-on research opportunities.
Avaltroni noted, “We want to bring many talented people together and create a unique environment where education, healthcare and innovation intersect.”
FDU HealthPath Forward includes several components such as new academic programs in fields like telehealth and medical technology, unique collaborations between practice-based degrees and other disciplines like cybersecurity, workforce development initiatives focused on digital health, a Healthcare Innovation Center for research collaboration, early pipeline programs for students entering healthcare fields, and lifelong learning opportunities.
Avaltroni expressed confidence in the initiative's potential impact: “With our commitment to this vision, FDU aims to set a new national standard for healthcare education and workforce development.”
The first phase will establish partnerships, launch academic programs, and open the Healthcare Innovation Center. Future phases will expand training programs and integrate advanced technology into education.
