NJBIA hosts virtual event on stress management and heart disease prevention

Someone dies of heart disease every 34 seconds in the United States, making it the leading cause of death in the nation. In response to this pressing issue, NJBIA is organizing a virtual event on Thursday that will bring together doctors, mental health specialists, and experts in workplace benefits programs. The event aims to provide participants with valuable insights into maintaining a heart-healthy lifestyle and managing stress.

The workshop titled "Stress, Mental Health, and Well-being Solutions" will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on February 27. It marks the beginning of NJBIA’s quarterly Mindful Business series, which focuses on addressing stress, mental health, and wellness in the workplace. The event is free for NJBIA members and costs $30 for non-members.

Among the highlights are presentations by various speakers:

Charles Paraboschi, MD, a cardiologist with Capital Health Cardiology Specialists, will discuss the connection between mental health and heart health and its importance for overall well-being.

Shakira Monet Johnson, founder and chief impact officer of Maple & Monroe, will present on “Self-Care Sunday,” an award-winning mental health initiative. Her session will focus on integrating self-care practices into organizational culture to foster a healthier workforce.

Chris Barton, LCSW, will share insights from her experience in leadership roles within non-profit substance use agencies and Horizon BCBSNJ’s behavioral health department. She will discuss how embracing employee wellness can lead to better business outcomes.

Sunitha Moonthungal, MD, director of Primary Care Services at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, will explore the impact of stress on physical health.
