New Jersey Citizen Action (NJCA) has expressed approval of the New Jersey State Assembly's rapid disapproval of a budget resolution passed by Republican Representatives. This resolution aims to cut $1.5 trillion from the federal budget, impacting essential programs such as Medicaid and SNAP.
Dena Mottola Jaborska, NJCA’s Executive Director, stated: “We urge the US Senate to follow their example and reject this inhumane resolution, which asks millions of most vulnerable residents to forgo access to essential safety-net services so the very wealthy and our biggest corporations can enjoy trillions more in tax breaks."
Jaborska highlighted the potential consequences for New Jersey if these cuts are implemented. "This is a $5 billion alarm fire for New Jersey. Nearly 2 million New Jerseyans depend on Medicaid for healthcare, including 1 in 3 of our children and 4 in 7 of our nursing home residents. Another 830,000 of our residents rely on SNAP for food assistance." She warned that "catastrophic cuts to these and other programs would endanger funding for hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, food banks, and other services," making life harder for many already struggling with basic needs.
Emphasizing public sentiment, Jaborska added: "New Jerseyans did not vote to inflict suffering on our families, neighbors, and communities. We urge our elected leaders at every level to follow our Assembly's example and stand up against the Republican budget resolution.”
