Port Authority announces travel advisories amid JFK redevelopment

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has announced a series of lane closures and service changes at key transportation hubs from February 28 to March 6. These changes are due to ongoing construction projects, including the $19 billion redevelopment of John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

Travelers using JFK should anticipate delays or reroutes as parts of the airport's roadway network will be closed. The Port Authority advises using mass transit options like MTA subways, buses, or the Long Island Rail Road for airport access. A free drop-off, pickup, and waiting lot is available at Lefferts Boulevard AirTrain JFK station.

Lane closures are planned at several major crossings:

- **George Washington Bridge**: Closures include lanes on the eastbound upper level ramp from Park Avenue and westbound lower level lanes.

- **Holland Tunnel**: The New Jersey-bound tube will close nightly for repairs related to Superstorm Sandy.

- **Lincoln Tunnel**: Various tubes will be closed on different nights affecting both New York-bound and New Jersey-bound traffic.

- **Outerbridge Crossing**: Ramp closures will detour motorists via Route 440.

Air travelers are urged to pre-book parking spaces at Newark Liberty International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, and JFK to avoid surcharges and ensure availability.

At Newark Liberty International Airport, runway rehabilitation work may affect flight schedules through mid-April during nighttime hours.

The PATH system will see reduced service intervals on certain lines due to track work, with some stations closed overnight for maintenance.
