The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) has announced the allocation of over $3.3 million in grants through the NJ Cool program, aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in buildings located in Edison and Newark. This initiative is part of a broader effort to foster a cleaner environment across New Jersey.
"Under Governor Phil Murphy’s leadership, New Jersey continues to invest in our clean energy economy by supporting programs and initiatives that lower our carbon footprint, and foster a cleaner and greener state," stated Tim Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer of NJEDA. He emphasized the potential health benefits for families in Newark and Edison, as well as job creation and growth within the state's clean energy sector.
Among the recipients, Edison 27 Investors, LLC received $1 million to replace existing HVAC units with more efficient electric models. David Elkouby from American Equity Partners expressed enthusiasm about modernizing their building's systems for better sustainability outcomes.
Samp Spirits II Inc., operating Harvest Wines & Spirits in Edison, was awarded over $200,000 for various upgrades including a new air-source heat pump system and solar panels. Rakesh Patel highlighted the importance of these changes for both environmental impact and cost savings.
Samarpan at Edison, LLC secured over $130,000 to upgrade its Dunkin' franchise's HVAC system along with lighting improvements. Himanshu Patel acknowledged this support as part of their commitment to environmental stewardship.
153 Halsey Newark, LLC received two grants totaling $2 million for projects involving boiler replacements with an electric VRF system among other upgrades. Jamie Graziano from SHIFT Capital praised the partnership with NJEDA for enabling continued investment efforts benefiting local communities.
NJ Cool provides up to $1 million per project covering 50% of eligible construction costs related to emissions-reducing retrofits. The program targets improvements like heating or cooling system updates alongside renewable energy installations such as solar panels.
