Port Authority announces travel advisories affecting major NYC transportation hubs

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has announced several lane closures and travel advisories for the week of March 7 to 13, affecting major transportation hubs in the region. Travelers are encouraged to plan ahead and consider using mass transit due to these disruptions.

At John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), construction related to a $19 billion redevelopment project is underway. This will impact motorists and for-hire vehicle services with potential delays or reroutes due to detours or road closures. "Customers are strongly advised to use mass transit to and from the airport," according to the advisory. The Port Authority suggests utilizing free drop-off, pickup, and waiting lots at the Lefferts Boulevard AirTrain JFK station.

Lane closures are planned at several key crossings:

- **George Washington Bridge**: Various closures from March 7 evening through March 8 morning.

- **Holland Tunnel**: New Jersey-bound tube closed during overnight hours on specified dates due to Superstorm Sandy-related repairs.

- **Lincoln Tunnel**: Closures in different tubes on various nights between March 8 and March 14.

- **Bayonne Bridge**: Lane closures on March 11 and March 13 during daytime hours.

- **Goethals Bridge**: Nighttime lane closures on specific dates.

Air travelers are urged to pre-book parking spaces if driving to airports like Newark Liberty International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, or JFK, as demand is high. Failure to pre-book may result in higher charges or difficulty finding parking spots.

For those using PATH services, there will be changes in train schedules over the weekend of March 8-9 due to track work. Additionally, certain stations will be closed nightly for maintenance.

Travelers can find more detailed information about these advisories online or by visiting Construction.JFKAirport.com for updates related specifically to JFK's redevelopment impacts.
