Port Authority advises travelers of lane closures at key transport hubs

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has announced several travel advisories for the week of March 21 to 27, affecting various transportation facilities. Travelers are advised to plan ahead and consider additional travel time due to lane closures and service changes.

At John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), construction related to a $19 billion redevelopment project is underway. Motorists should anticipate delays or reroutes due to detours or closures within the airport's roadway network. The Port Authority strongly recommends using mass transit options such as MTA New York City Transit subway, buses, or MTA Long Island Rail Road for airport access.

From March 21 at 11 p.m. until March 31 at 11 a.m., AirTrain JFK will be suspended between Jamaica and Federal Circle stations due to construction work. Free shuttle buses will provide alternate service during this period.

For those traveling via the George Washington Bridge, three eastbound lanes on the upper level will be closed from Friday night through Saturday morning, with additional closures scheduled throughout the weekend.

The Holland Tunnel will see closures in its New Jersey-bound tube from Friday night through Saturday morning and nightly from Sunday through Thursday due to ongoing Superstorm Sandy-related repairs.

The Lincoln Tunnel will experience multiple tube closures over the weekend and into next week, affecting traffic flow in both directions.

Bayonne Bridge travelers should expect simultaneous lane closures on Tuesday and Wednesday during daytime hours.

Travelers using Newark Liberty International Airport are encouraged to use mass transit options or pre-book parking spaces if driving. Runway rehabilitation work may affect flight schedules through mid-April during overnight hours.

LaGuardia Airport continues its fare-free LaGuardia Link Q70 bus service year-round to promote public transit usage.

PATH train services will operate on modified schedules over the weekend due to track work, with supplemental services available between Hoboken and 33 St stations.

Motorists exiting JFK should follow detour signage when accessing major expressways near the airport, while those entering JFK should allow extra travel time due to roadwork impacting expressway ramps serving Terminals 1, 4, 5, 7, and 8. Parking adjustments have been made at Terminal 5's Yellow Parking Lot for individuals with special needs or disabilities.

"Travelers Urged to Use Mass Transit as Major Construction Currently Underway at John F. Kennedy International Airport; Motorists Should Allow Additional Travel Time," stated a release by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey regarding these developments.
