Expect delays at New York area airports and tunnels from March 28 to April 3

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has advised travelers to anticipate delays and to plan ahead from March 28 to April 3 due to various lane closures and service changes. The George Washington Bridge, Holland Tunnel, and Lincoln Tunnel will experience lane closures throughout the week.

At John F. Kennedy International Airport, significant construction as part of a $19 billion redevelopment project is causing roadway changes and detours. Travelers are encouraged to use mass transit options, such as MTA New York City Transit subway, buses, or MTA Long Island Rail Road. Motorists are advised to use the free drop-off, pickup, and waiting lot at Lefferts Boulevard AirTrain JFK station.

"The Port Authority encourages all travelers who use the agency’s facilities to plan ahead and consider additional travel time due to lane closures or service changes," the advisory notes.

The Van Wyck Expressway ramp to terminals 7 and 8 at JFK is closed for construction, and detour signage directs motorists to JFK Expressway via the Federal Circle exit. Until further notice, the taxi stand at Terminal 7 is relocated to the departures level.

Newark Liberty International Airport travelers should check with their airlines for potential schedule changes as runway rehabilitation work may affect flights from Mondays through Thursdays during nighttime hours and from Friday nights through Sunday mornings.

Travelers can find more information about specific impacts at Construction.JFKAirport.com and the Port Authority’s website.
