JFK Airport selects Duty Free Americas for New Terminal One retail space

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, alongside The New Terminal One and Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) Airports, has announced the selection of Duty Free Americas (DFA) as the exclusive duty-free operator for John F. Kennedy International Airport's New Terminal One. This terminal, which is being developed at a cost of $9.5 billion and will open in phases from 2026 to 2030, will house nearly 20,000 square feet of duty-free shopping space featuring both global brands and local NYC products.

Skyline Duty Free, a retail venture by Duty Free Americas, will anchor the terminal's commercial district. The flagship multi-level store, with four additional duty-free locations, will incorporate architecture inspired by New York City's skyline. "As an all-international terminal, New Terminal One plays an important role as the region’s front-door to the world," said Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole. Duty Free experiences will include an "experiential center" with virtual reality simulators, art, and fashion activations.

"Creating a uniquely New York sense of place across all new and renovated terminals is a fundamental tenet," stated Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. New Terminal One CEO Jennifer Aument highlighted the partnership as an enhancement of the passenger experience, offering a mix of local and global products.

The project promises to introduce innovative retail features, such as holographic displays and A.I.-powered beauty treatments. Skyline Duty Free will host more than 1,000 square feet of locally sourced products alongside global brands. Dominic Lowe, URW COO, described the initiative as a chance to "set a new standard in the U.S. with our commercial program at JFK’s New Terminal One."

DFA’s joint venture will include 35 percent Airport Certified Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE) partners. "When an ACDBE like BBJ partners is in a large-scale project, it is more than just generating revenue—it is about demonstrating our expertise, making a meaningful impact," said BBJ Concessions owner James Phillips.

The New Terminal One, replacing Terminals 1, 2, and 3, will become JFK's largest terminal, boasting 23 gates and over 300,000 square feet of space upon completion. It aims to achieve a Top 5 Skytrax ranking for airport terminals.
