Port Authority announces travel advisories for major NYC area transportation hubs

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has announced several lane closures and service suspensions across major transportation hubs from April 18 to April 24. Travelers are advised to plan ahead and allow for additional travel time due to the changes.

The AirTrain JFK service will be suspended between Howard Beach and Federal Circle from Tuesday night to Wednesday afternoon. During this time, free shuttle buses will provide alternative transportation. Similarly, the AirTrain Newark service will be suspended between the Airport Train Station and P4 Station for the same period, with free shuttle buses available for travelers.

George Washington Bridge, Holland Tunnel, Lincoln Tunnel, and Goethals Bridge will experience lane closures throughout the week. Motorists entering and exiting John F. Kennedy International Airport should note evening and overnight closures on the Van Wyck Expressway and will be detoured through Federal Circle.

With major construction ongoing at John F. Kennedy International Airport as part of a $19 billion redevelopment project, travelers are urged to use mass transit. The Port Authority advises using MTA New York City Transit, buses, or the MTA Long Island Rail Road, which offers 20-minute trains from Grand Central Terminal or Penn Station to the AirTrain JFK station at Jamaica.

Motorists are encouraged to utilize the free drop-off, pickup, and waiting lot at the Lefferts Boulevard AirTrain JFK station. From there, passengers can connect to the on-airport AirTrain for a brief ride to airport terminals. The redevelopment aims to transform JFK into a global gateway with new terminals and modern amenities.
