NJEDA allocates over $4.3 million to green economy workforce training in New Jersey

The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) has approved over $4.3 million in funding as part of the NJ Green Workforce Training Grant Challenge, coinciding with Earth Month celebrations. The grants will support the development of training programs aimed at preparing New Jersey residents for careers in the green economy, with an emphasis on serving overburdened communities.

Governor Phil Murphy commented on the significance of the grant approvals, stating, "These four approvals through the Green Workforce Training Grant Challenge will provide long-lasting solutions that will protect our environment while creating opportunities for New Jersey’s most vulnerable workforce.”

The Grant Challenge required applicants to submit proposals for developing workforce training programs to strengthen the green economy. Available grants ranged from $250,000 to $1.5 million, which recipients can use for design, planning, capital, and implementation costs in green economy industries.

First Lady Tammy Murphy highlighted New Jersey's readiness for an environmentally friendly economy, saying, “Guided by the recommendations of the New Jersey Green Economy Task Force, New Jersey is preparing its residents for a cleaner, more environmentally friendly and resilient economy."

NJEDA Chief Executive Officer Tim Sullivan emphasized the administration’s dedication, stating, “The Murphy Administration remains dedicated to building a clean energy future, and through initiatives like the Green Workforce Training Grant, the NJEDA is leading efforts to expand access to essential workforce training and development opportunities in emerging green sectors.”

Eric Miller, Executive Director of the Council on the Green Economy, underscored the impact of the grants by noting, “These awards will continue to empower our residents to get trained in cutting edge jobs that support the clean economy.”

The funding will be distributed among four applicants to facilitate the creation and implementation of comprehensive training programs designed to meet New Jersey’s green economy goals.
