The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) has allocated $190,000 in scholarships to assist 40 high school and college students from New Jersey. The awards were distributed at an event hosted at the Pines Manor in Edison, recognizing both scholarship recipients and newly licensed Certified Public Accountants (CPAs).
The NJCPA Scholarship Fund selected 13 high school students and 27 college students from over 220 applicants. Each college award ranged between $2,000 and $6,500, while high school recipients each received $1,500. The high school recipients plan to major in accounting, attending various schools like Carteret, Kearny, Marlboro, and St. Rose High Schools, among others.
College students receiving scholarships are attending institutions including Brookdale Community College, Rutgers University, and Seton Hall University. Among these awards were Minority Scholarships, offered in collaboration with the American Institute of CPAs and the National Association of Black Accountants – Northern New Jersey.
Aiysha (AJ) Johnson, CEO and executive director of NJCPA, commended the students and newly licensed CPAs, stating, “It’s wonderful to be able to support such deserving students who are just starting out in their journey to become accounting professionals and to honor those individuals who have remained steadfast and achieved their CPA license.”
Angela Garofalo, president of the NJCPA Scholarship Fund, emphasized the importance of supporting future CPAs, noting, “Encouraging the next generation of CPAs and accounting professionals should always be top of mind. It’s a pleasure to be recognizing such outstanding students.”
Scholarship funding was provided by several benefactors, including CohnReznick, the Deloitte Foundation, and Withum. A number of scholarships were also endowed in memory or honor of past NJCPA members.
Since its inception in the 1960s, the NJCPA Scholarship Fund has distributed over $7 million to more than 1,700 students pursuing careers in accounting. To access the complete list of this year’s scholarship recipients, individuals are directed to the NJCPA website.
