Governor Murphy proclaims May as Walk and Bike Month in New Jersey

Governor Phil Murphy has declared May as Bike Month and New Jersey Walk and Bike to School Month. The initiative encourages residents to engage in physical activities, such as walking or bicycling with children to various destinations.

National Bike & Roll to School Day is set for May 7, but New Jersey communities will observe the event on dates that fit their schedules throughout May. These events focus on promoting physical activity, healthy lifestyles among children, and several related issues like bicycle and pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, and environmental concerns. Moreover, physically active students reportedly arrive at school more ready to learn and perform better academically.

Individuals can participate by checking if their school has an event registered for May. Those interested in organizing events can reach out to a Safe Routes to School Regional Coordinator for guidance.
