NJCA supports Mayor Baraka after his detention at Newark ICE facility

New Jersey Citizen Action (NJCA) has expressed support for Mayor Ras Baraka following his detention outside the Delaney Hall ICE detention center in Newark. NJCA Executive Director Dena Mottola Jaborska issued a statement backing Mayor Baraka's actions in advocating for immigrants, people of color, and vulnerable communities.

"New Jersey Citizen Action stands by Mayor Ras Baraka as he stands up for immigrants, people of color, and our most vulnerable communities," said Jaborska. She criticized the Trump administration's approach to immigration, describing it as a "war on immigrants" that is not concerned with justice or public safety but rather aims at "repression, silencing dissent, targeting people of color, and enriching the corporate prison system."

Jaborska emphasized the importance of elected officials taking a stand against injustice. "Our next governor should be distinguished by the fights they choose to fight, and by the extent to which they'll go to stand up against injustice," she stated. She called on all elected officials and residents of New Jersey to support Mayor Baraka during this period.
