The Codey Fund for Mental Health has awarded $100,000 in grants to four New Jersey organizations, each receiving $25,000. These organizations work to improve mental health care and address associated stigmas. The 2025 grant recipients are Project Live Inc, Community Hope Inc, the Mental Health Association of Essex and Morris Inc, and Family Connections.
Former New Jersey Governor Richard J. Codey and his wife Mary Jo founded the fund in 2012. Richard Codey emphasized the importance of compassionate mental health care: “Throughout my 50 years in public service, I’ve witnessed the transformative power of compassionate mental health care.” He highlighted that many families struggle with mental illness silently and need support.
Robert N. Davison, CEO of the Mental Health Association of Essex and Morris, expressed gratitude for the fund's investment: “The money will make a difference in people who suffer from mental illness and their families’ lives.” Similarly, Carmine Deo, CEO of Community Hope Inc., appreciated the grant's impact: “Thanks to the Codey Fund for Mental Health, we can carry out our mission.”
Kevin Codey noted that addressing stigma is a key goal: “Addressing the stigma around mental illness and ensuring equitable access to quality mental health care is the guiding principle of the Codey Fund.” Ross Croessmann from Project Live shared that their grant will help build stability pathways for individuals facing systemic barriers.
