Port Authority delays lane closures for Shakira fans amid NJ TRANSIT suspension

Fans of Shakira attending her concerts at MetLife Stadium will not face traffic disruptions due to construction work at Port Authority crossings. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has announced that scheduled lane closures at the Hudson River crossings will be postponed on Thursday, May 15, and Friday, May 16. This decision aims to facilitate travel for concertgoers who plan to drive, given the suspension of mass transit services.

Typically, overnight lane closures at the Holland Tunnel, Lincoln Tunnel, and George Washington Bridge start as early as 9 p.m. However, these closures will now be delayed until at least 1 a.m. Staff will monitor traffic conditions closely to ensure that closures only occur when acceptable.

NJ TRANSIT has previously stated it will not provide service to or from MetLife Stadium on those evenings due to potential labor action. A complete suspension of NJ TRANSIT rail service might begin as early as 12:01 a.m. on Friday, May 16. The Port Authority has provided guidance for diverted NJ TRANSIT passengers using its facilities such as the Midtown Bus Terminal, PATH commuter rail, and Newark Liberty International Airport.
