The New Jersey Chamber of Commerce has expressed concern over the NJ Transit strike that began at midnight, urging for an immediate resolution. The organization highlighted the potential economic harm and disruption to businesses and the workforce due to prolonged service interruptions.
According to Tom Bracken, President & CEO of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, "This strike undermines the very purpose of the new corporate transit fee." He emphasized that the fee was meant for fixing and modernizing NJ Transit, not as leverage in labor disputes or to fund wage increases. Bracken further stated, "The end result of this strike cannot be a further increase in the corporate transit fee, a tax paid for by New Jersey employers."
Bracken noted that businesses across New Jersey are already facing financial burdens and warned that additional costs could deter investment and job creation in the state. The Chamber hopes for a swift resolution prioritizing commuters and economic stability.
