The ongoing $19 billion redevelopment project at JFK is expected to cause delays or reroutes for motorists and those using for-hire vehicle services. "Customers are strongly advised to use mass transit to and from the airport," according to the advisory. Options include MTA New York City Transit subway or buses, and MTA Long Island Rail Road with connections from Grand Central Terminal or Penn Station.
For travelers using JFK terminals 4, 5, and 7, there have been adjustments in pickup locations for for-hire vehicles. Terminal 4 passengers can use a free shuttle bus to Lot 66, while those at Terminals 5 and 7 can take a free AirTrain to the Howard Beach Pickup Lot.
Motorists should also be aware of planned lane closures at George Washington Bridge, Holland Tunnel, Lincoln Tunnel, Bayonne Bridge, and Goethals Bridge. The Port Authority encourages motorists traveling by car to use its free drop-off, pickup, and waiting lot at the Lefferts Boulevard AirTrain JFK station.
