Attorney General responds to Supreme Court ruling on birthright citizenship

Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin has issued a statement in response to the Supreme Court's decision regarding birthright citizenship. While expressing disagreement with the ruling, Platkin acknowledged the Court's recognition that nationwide orders can be necessary to protect plaintiffs from harm.

"We welcome the opportunity to continue making our case before the district court," Platkin stated, emphasizing that the Executive Order will not take immediate effect. He criticized President Trump's approach to birthright citizenship as potentially chaotic and harmful to states.

Platkin expressed confidence that what he described as an "unconstitutional order" would remain blocked by the courts. He reaffirmed his commitment to challenging President Trump's order, which he claims strips American babies of citizenship for the first time since the Civil War.

The Attorney General looks forward to a future decision that may declare this order unlawful permanently.
