The coalition For The Many NJ has criticized former President Donald Trump's proposed legislation, referred to as the "One Big Beautiful Bill." According to the coalition, the bill represents a significant threat to working families, seniors, immigrants, and communities of color.
"There’s nothing beautiful about ripping health care away from millions while handing billionaires a massive tax break," stated a spokesperson for the coalition. They argue that the bill is essentially "a massive giveaway to the ultra-rich" and claim that New Jersey deserves better.
The coalition further expressed concerns over the potential consequences of the bill: "This bill kills. It bankrupts. It robs our future to enrich the few." They highlighted disparities in benefits, noting that while billionaires could receive nearly $300,000 in tax cuts, working families would only see an increase of $160. Additionally, they pointed out that 16 million Americans could lose their health coverage under this plan.
"This isn’t reform — it’s robbery," they asserted.
For The Many NJ also criticized three New Jersey Representatives—Tom Kean Jr., Chris Smith, and Jeff Van Drew—for supporting the bill. The coalition accused them of prioritizing wealthy donors and White House directives over their constituents' needs.
For The Many NJ is a statewide coalition comprising more than 40 organizations focused on expanding funding for essential services and improving budget practices to address both current and future needs, particularly for historically marginalized communities.
