Overnight lane closures planned for George Washington Bridge until November

Beginning July 18, three New York-bound lanes on the upper level of the George Washington Bridge and its approach lanes will be closed overnight through November 2025. This is part of the Port Authority's "Restoring the George" program, a $2 billion initiative consisting of 11 projects aimed at repairing and rehabilitating the bridge as it approaches its centennial.

During these closures, one New York-bound lane will remain open on the upper level. Drivers are advised to use alternative routes. Car and bus drivers should opt for the lower level, while truck drivers are encouraged to avoid the bridge entirely during closure periods. All travelers should expect delays and exercise caution in the area.

Specific closure schedules are as follows:

- Mondays through Thursdays: Three eastbound upper-level lanes will close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

- Fridays and Saturdays: The same lanes will close from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Additionally, several approach closures include:

- The ramp from Southbound Palisades Interstate Parkway to eastbound upper-level closes:

- Mondays through Thursdays from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

- Fridays from 10 p.m. to Saturdays at 8 a.m.

Traffic will be rerouted via Fletcher Avenue, with car and bus drivers using Kelby Street for access to lower-level eastbound lanes.

- One lane on Interstate 95 approaching eastbound upper-level lanes (from Fletcher Avenue overpass) closes:

- Mondays through Thursdays from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

- Fridays and Saturdays from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.

- The right lane on Bruce Reynolds Boulevard/Park Avenue ramp towards eastbound upper-level closes:

- Mondays through Thursdays from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

- Fridays and Saturdays from 11 p.m. to Saturday mornings at 8 a.m.

Travelers are advised that significant delays may occur due to these necessary repair works.
